Law firms increasingly face cyber threats due to the valuable sensitive data they manage — business transactions, privileged client communications, and confidential case details. The pressure of strict deadlines and ethical obligations makes them pay ransoms or comply with extortion demands to regain access to critical files. Over the past year, these risks have only intensified.
A new report, based on the 72-question 2024 ILTA Breach Readiness Survey, by Fenix24/Conversant Group and the International Legal Technology Association (ILTA) highlights major cybersecurity risks, with phishing emerging as the top threat. Additional concerns outlined include data exfiltration, ransomware, and social engineering. The findings indicate a shift towards prioritizing data backup solutions, as user behavior issues have decreased as a primary threat compared to last year.
